Best low acid coffee: Lifeboost. But most “low acid” labels aren’t measured.

Get Lifeboost Medium Roast. Three review sites pick it first for sensitive stomachs. It’s $2.42 an ounce. But “low acid” isn’t a regulated term, and most brands publish no acid number. If you want one, Lucy Jo’s Mellow Belly publishes a pH of about 5.6, and it costs less, $1.58 an ounce.

Only Lucy Jo’s gives a number, about pH 5.6, and it doesn’t name the lab. Lifeboost says it is “up to 27.7% less acidic” than most store coffee, but gives no pH, lab or method. The rest say “low acid” with no measurement.

“Worth knowing: low-acid is not a regulated or certified term in coffee the way organic or fair trade are. Nobody audits the claim, and no standard defines a threshold.”

Why Lifeboost

“Lifeboost Medium Roast is the top pick for sensitive stomachs: a single-origin Nicaraguan medium roast with chocolate and caramel notes and low acidity that stays gentle without going heavy.”

BrewSift, October 2026 · read it

“Lifeboost markets its single-origin Nicaraguan coffee as low-acid, which is the brand's claim rather than a property of the region.”

What actually lowers acid

Two things help: a darker roast, and cold brew.

“Dark roasting, for example, particularly very dark roasting, dramatically reduces acidity.”

Questions people ask

What makes coffee low acid?

Mostly the roast and the brew. Very dark roasts have less acidity, and cold brew pulls fewer acids out of the grounds.

Is dark roast less acidic than light roast?

Yes. Dark roasting breaks down acids, and in one small study a dark roast stirred up less stomach acid than a regular blend.

Is cold brew low acid?

It has fewer acids overall, but its pH is about the same as hot coffee. Many people with sensitive stomachs still find it easier.
